I remember my friend, while going through a difficult period in her life, telling me a funny line. "I feel like Hashem is playing a game with me, trying to have fun through my pain. Like He's going to one day tell me Ha Ha I got you this time!"
Why does Hashem make life challenging? Why can't it be peaches and cream?
My husband was having a conversation with someone last week. They were debating over whether a person just needs to accept his Nisayon or if he should think into it a bit more. The example was of being poor. Maybe this is just someone's lot in life. And he has to accept his life's circumstances. Some people have the Mazel of being rich and some people have the mazel of being poor.
And then there's the idea of Hashem testing someone to stretch their muscles.
Sometimes Hashem takes money away from people in order to get them to MOVE!
Some people sit in their dirty diapers and DON'T FEEL IT!
Some people have atrocious behaviors and NEVER CHANGE!
They may need to grow in their lives, yet they do not wish to leave their comfort zone (like most of us.) So Hashem, in his ultimate mercy, "forces" the person to move.
My principal in seminary used to always say, " you're not going to clean your room unless you NOTICE the mess!"
My husband and his friend were talking about someone that was sick. So generally, when people hear this news, they sigh. They talk about the unfortunate circumstances. They pity themselves.
Does a person actually think that this is just a propellor to get him MOVING?
That there is actually a certain defect in their charachter traits that needs some fixing up?That maybe the direction they were going till now was not the direction they are supposed to be going on? Maybe they should make an about face?
I remember my friend who was in shidduchim for a while. She was miserable! She was lonely! She was lost! The list goes on and on.
I remember telling her, "listen I don't enjoy seeing you in this state. Maybe the reason you're in this is because you were doing something WRONG? Maybe you need to look inside yourself and change your course of direction?"
Do you know what happened after that? She actually did!
She began to do some soul searching. She did A LOT of internal work. It took some time. But you know what happened as a result? SHE GOT MARRIED!
Yes! I saw this tangibly! After all the work she did inside of herself, Hashem told her she was ready to finally meet her bashert!
(Sometimes I wonder if the shidduch crisis is just that. A lack of self development that makes people ill-equipped for marriage)
Hashem doesn't want to torture is just for the sake of torture. Why would He do that? He created a beautiful world. With beautiful people. Why would He want to destroy it? Why would He WANT there to be pain?
If I drew a beautiful painting, why would I want there to be some paint spills? Why wouldn't I wish my creation to be perfect?
Maybe I wish that my artist should become a better painter? Or maybe I wish that my painting should be more elaborate?
Whatever the case, I wish to make a better product.
Really this world IS NOT JUST about the bottom line. It is not JUST about who made it in the SUCCESS WORLD. The success at the end is just the candy dangling so that we have the MOTIVATION to move.
Because we as humans, will realistically NOT MOVE if we didn't have a treat at the end of the road.
So we need to strive. Yet we need to expect that there will be times in our lives that things are just NOT GOING THE WAY WE EXPECTED.
And then we need to look inside of ourselves and THINK.
What do I need to do differently?
Sometimes different means we need to have more faith. Sometimes different means we need to physically work more. Sometimes different means we need to look in a different direction.
Every person has the ability to look inside themselves and know their mission. That's part of the deal that we got by entering this world. We got a body. We got parents. We got our environment. We also got our thoughts.
Our thoughts are there to help us tap into our individual mission in life.
You have the power. Just give yourself permission to go there.
I'm warning you. IT'S NOT EASY!
Part of the package you were given is RESISTANCE to your mission. You're going to face A LOT of obstacles to get to where you need to go. Whether be it physical, emotional, your thoughts, or circumstances.
Yet when you truly tap into your mission, the obstacles will be a breeze to overcome. Because you will be so clear about where you are headed.
So keep going! Don't give up! And don't be afraid to look inside yourself and face your liquid truth.
BECAUSE THE ONLY WAY OUT IS THROUGH!
