I just came to this realization.
I'm starting to think along this pattern with anything and everything in life. Like, why are we working? Why are we learning? Why are we doing? Why are we thinking? Why are we existing? Its all a means to an end. Some people think that the means is the end within it of itself. Some people live their lives with no ultimate purpose. Some people get lost with the means and forget about the ultimate goals. Like taking a shower is only a means to get clean. Some people get lost in the water and come out dirtier than they came in... Some people use work as an end. Line in Germany, when Hitler rose to power, he got people to believe "arbit macht frei" work makes you free. He created a mentality of no purpose. No goal. Just work. Money is the same thing. A means to an end. Without money, there wouldn't exist anything physical. And even, may I dear say, the study of Torah is a means to an end. The study of Torah is a means to become the refined human being that you need to become. Some may say that the study of Torah is an end within itself. Yes, but that is if the GOAL is still to BECOME a tansformed person. The same way work is an end within itself, because it keeps man busy. But work does absolutely nothing, if a man is dying to do wrong things. It just delays a man from doing it now. Eventually he's going to do whatever he wants anyways. But what's the end? Aaaaaaahh. The end, my friend, is to resemble G-d. To attain the characteristics that G-d is. To be an emissary on this world for Him. To look and breathe and act like a person created by G-d. That, my friend, is the goal. To be unable to differentiate between a man and an angel. That is the goal of life. Working, having children, davening, eating, interacting...Even Tznius! These are all a means by which we become the people we need to become. Sometimes, I feel like just "getting through my day." My kids are testing me. My nerves are frazzled. Myself is neglected. And I just want to RUN. Or...... Go through life with my head not connected to the ground. So I can just skip over the process and not have to deal with annoyances. And yet, it is precisely for this reason that we cannot live in a bubble and become hermits in our lives. If we do this, we are skipping over the process. If we do not go through the tunnel, we will not get to the end. Let's not get lost in those tunnels of life and lose focus as to our end goals. Let's keep our eyes on the ball. And let us win!
